Community Pharmacy Award 

Our services over the past 24 years have been recognised by the Lane Cove Council who last year awarded us a community services award for Outstanding Services of a  small business - their second highest honour and one that has never before been awarded. The award was given as much for our long-standing services that we provide outside of the pharmacy to members of the community as it was for leading the way in the survival and reform of neighbourhood pharmacies everywhere.

We can show you and supply on request a formulation of zinc capsules that our naturopath often prescribes and that contains all the natural constituents that help zinc to work efficiently in your body. It is critically important to have a formulation that is balanced because just supplementing with zinc on its own can lead to more harm than good. Zinc deficiency symptoms can be serious and become especially prevalent in growing children and can become critical in teens.  Naturally, we will suggest that you allow us to complete a nutritional assessment firstly.

One thing that we are excited about is our formal move into "compounding". Compounding prescriptions is a real "back to the future" step for us and a rewarding one at that. If your doctor wants you to have a prescription for a bio-identical hormone, discontinued drug or need a hard-to-get item such as KH3 or Imedeen then our compounding lab. allows it to materialise for you. You may have an animal that needs a non-standard dose of medication or that simply refuses to take it. Our specialised compounding technique can present the medication in a flavour that the animal will find attractive. The same goes for childrens' medicine. If your child just refuses to take that vitally needed medicine for reflux or one for laxative purposes or even an antibiotic that tastes unpalatable, then we can compound a form of it in a flavour that your child will find palatable - perhaps even attractive.  This means to you that we are able to offer you services that we once used to when I first started out in pharmacy. We also compound the good, old-fashioned cough mixtures that often mean that you can actually clear your chest and help to heal the chesty problem. The same applies to sinusitis - another troublesome and vexing chronic complaint that can stick with you for many years if you just use the "modern" steroid sprays. We have also had considerable success in formulating compounds for cold sores, acne, psoriasis, eczema, chilblains, irritable bowels, "leaky gut". I have also sourced the necessary materials to make the "perfect" multivitamin/mineral complex supplement.

Bio-identical Hormones.

But let me explain about the hormone preparations. You see... Hormone creams, trochés (lozenges) or capsules have become the standard for hormone replacement therapy(HRT). These have been synthesised - usually from plant constituents - to match precisely the form of the human hormones progesterone, testosterone and the oestrogens among others, unlike patented HRT that makes non-identical hormones that have been implicated irrefutably in causing cancer. The Bio identical that we compound are the same ones that your body can actually make.

Menopause

But the production of these often falters, especially during menopause. Most of the patented HRT medication has consisted of pregnant mare's urine extract (that contains many forms of oestrogen that are not found in humans) or synthetic chemicals similar but not identical to your own hormones. These have been associated with increased risk of cancer. 

Enter the compounding chemist - and your alert doctor. Once the doctor determines exactly what dosage and combination you need to restore your blood levels of these hormones to normal, he will write a prescription for them. Once we receive the prescription, we will go to work and produce a stunning troché, cream or capsule that allows gentle, gradual assimilation of the hormone combination into your body. But please bear in mind that - by seeking the advice of our resident naturopath/pharmacist, Phil Wade, many of the underlying causes of menopause may also be addressed.

I mentioned "mainly" in menopause. There are other times when your body's hormone production can falter.

Infertility 

For example, if you are a male or female and are not producing viable ova or sperm, then your hormone tests usually reveal that your hormone levels are low. While these can be improved dramatically by applying natural therapy techniques recommended by our naturopath, it is true that - in the short term - your hormones can be "replaced" by using creams or troches of biodentical hormones.

But there are other products that we can make including fantastic breakthroughs in the world of skin treatments such as moisturising and antioxidant creams.
