Acne is a monster that has many heads (no pun intended).

Simple teenage acne.
Acne occurs during the puberty growth spurt andhappens because your skin becomes depleted of micronutrient s that are needed to support its local immune protection and normal glandular activity.
The result is a build-up of bacteria in the pores and glands in your skin and also sebum, resulting in pus formation as your sluggish “killer” white blood cells attempt to destroy the bacteria.

Hormones - not all they seem

But other things are also happening – your brand new hormones are causing a sudden rush of sebum and this can mix with the pus and clog your pores, causing even greater likelihood of the formation of pustules as the bacteria become ‘trapped’ inside. But there's even more problems with hormone production at this age. Remember that I said that the puberty growth spurt causes a nutritional depletion? Well, the liver's detoxification mechanism suffers also. What has this got to do with acne? Well, your hormones should be broken down after they have done their job by your liver. If it is not working then the levels build up even more than they should and you get excessive sebum production. Combined with your poor immune response, germs in your skin get a free reign.

Antibacterial skin washes - bad news

Meanwhile, those supposedly trusty antibacterial skin washes are washing off bacteria that should be present on your skin, leaving it defenceless to attack by candida. Candida forms pustules that can be mistaken for bacterial infection.
So, next your doctor will offer antibiotics. These can give a temporary response, but they don’t reach the skin in very high concentrations. However, they will deplete your ‘resident’ gut flora (bacteria that confer health) when taken over a period of time even more.
The cruelty that can occur here is that the sterile environment on your skin can now allow an even more prolific overgrowth of the only bug not affected by antibacterials and antibiotics – Candida. And Candida will also proliferate in your gut once your regular, protective bacteria in there are similarly depleted.
This means to you that you are being inundated with relatively massive colonies of Candida and also other bacteria that have survived the antibiotics. These, in turn can migrate around your body and proliferate in areas where they are definitely not wanted, including the basal skin layers. From here, it is a simple matter for them to grow up through your skin and really dig in.

Other unwanted effects
All of this activity in your gut causes a gut membrane to become dried and microscopically fissured. This state is termed ‘leaky gut’. This will need to be addressed to achieve any permanent resolution of the problem.
 Food allergy too
Meanwhile, this latest drama has made you susceptible to food allergy. This will also need to be addressed or you will finish up with a permanently irritated immune system and become susceptible to eczema, asthma, rhinitis, type II diabetes and a myriad of other chronic ill health states – including glandular fever and chronic fatigue. Not only that but also your growth may become affected – even to the point of developing scoliosis.
